About the Course

This 4-module course takes students ages 14-18 through their first practical job search experience. They move from career exploration to landing their first interview with tips, personal exploration, resume and application preparation templates, and tips for being a great new hire.

Introduction

Before we even get started, we take a unique look at the types of work, work environments and ways of working with others that interest you by filling out a pre-course questionnaire.

Career Choices – Beyond “What do you wanna be when you grow up?”

Whether you have a job already or are seeking your first, there’s plenty to think about. We’ll determine where you are now and help you get the most out of each experience of your career exploration. Make your choices count way beyond just a part-time or summer paycheck.

Your First Resume – Owning Your Unique Value and Adding to it Every Day!

Presenting yourself on paper (through a resume or application) is sometimes an art. More employers are requiring resumes even for entry-level hourly positions. Be prepared by starting to gather your unique skills and qualifications now. Going through the process may even uncover skills you didn’t realize you have and give you new ideas for job opportunities you’ll actually ENJOY!

Value Propositions – King of the Application Mountain

No one likes to wait around hoping that they’ll get the job. Now that you’re ready to apply, how can you get your application viewed FIRST? Or even better, have them itching to hire you on the spot? Let’s talk about how YOU can make the best impression.

Meet the Author

Julie Ford

Julie Ford

Julie Ford is a certified life coach, speaker, trainer, and author of the book Creating Time and Energy. Her passion is championing teens and their parents as they navigate some of the richest yet most challenging transitions to independence. Together they enjoy every stage and see the treasure available in each moment.

Her background at large corporations (like GTE, Arthur Andersen, Right Management and Deloitte) paired with the love of parenting her two girls has led her to combine the best of the board room with the best of the family room. The more complaints she heard from hiring managers and the media disparaging all the younger generations, the more fired up she became to assist BOTH sides with life skills training and fresh perspectives.

Her programs, like Enjoy Every Stage group coaching, Tools of Life radio show and Tools of Life by Julz of Life videos, and Parent/Teen Communication coaching are changing lives one good human at a time. Her sense of humor, attention to what isn’t said, and her use of creative analogy create connections with her clients that move them forward towards the answers they seek.

Julie resides (and practices daily shenanigans) in southern Wisconsin with her husband Rico and two teen daughters.
